My name is
Olivia
I’m a Katonah Yoga® teacher based in New York City. Thanks for stopping by!
I teach what I know and try to maintain a practice that is practical, do-able, effective and challenging, yet fun. I do yoga for many reasons: so I can be available, warm and outgoing, so I can catch a wave, salsa, travel to distant places, climb mountains and make art. More recently, I found myself in an unsettling situation regarding my health and although it took me some time to bounce back, now I also do yoga so I can prepare myself for the unexpected.
My offerings are heavily influenced by my mentor Nevine Michaan, Katonah Yoga’s® founder. Preparation and self-responsibility are two major themes I reference constantly because I understand them very well in the context of being both unprepared and freewheeling. I first met Nevine in 2018 during my 200HR teacher training at Sky Ting Yoga in NYC, however it wasn’t until 2020 that I began to work with her more closely. Today almost every aspect of the yoga I practice, I have learned from my mentor Nevine and my teachers at Sky Ting including Kate Posch, Dages Juvelier Keates, Beth Cooke and many others.
I teach yoga because these tools work and they’re quite simple outside of all the theories and traditions we reference from time to time. It’s in this context of practicality that I have adopted these tools into my daily life as absolutely necessary in order to maintain my sanity, my freedom and my happiness. With consistency and steady guidance, change the body and you begin to change the mind. (:
