Nevine Michaan + Katonah Yoga
Nevine started a daily practice in NYC with renowned yoga instructor Allan Bateman in the 1970s and became fully immersed in what would become her life’s work. She began teaching Yoga in 1980, and founded the Katonah Yoga® Center in Katonah, New York in 1986.
The techniques underpinning the Katonah practices come from classical Hatha yoga, Taoist yoga and the panpyschic vision belonging to western esoteric philosophy.
The language used amoungst the Katonah community is metaphor and analogy. For example, identifying the body as the abode, or exploring the body as one’s instrument, the mind as the musician and the breath as the melody. The power of analogy allows the individual to use life experiences to define the personal in order to understand the collective.
